Not Just for Addicts

Addiction

Around 12 years ago, I went through a challenging time at work due to overworking and piling too much pressure on myself. Eventually, this led to burnout and stress, and I had to leave my job. I knew that a big part of the problem lay with my attitude towards work, and unless this was addressed, it was likely to reoccur in the future.

I looked around for help and found Celebrate Recovery, a Christian group designed to help people from all backgrounds with their hurts, habits, and hang-ups. Although I knew I had a habit of working too much, I wouldn’t have regarded myself as an addict – in my mind, that was someone who had trouble with alcohol, gambling, or drugs. I spoke to my friend who ran one of the Celebrate Recovery groups, and he encouraged me to try it out and explained that it wasn’t only for addicts, but anyone who had been knocked off course by life’s trials and troubles.

I went along to a meeting to try it out and never looked back! Over the following year, my faulty attitude towards work changed considerably for the better, as I worked through the course with the friendship and support of my fellow Celebrate Recovery members. Consequently, I developed a much better work-life balance which had a positive impact on my family life and my important relationships.

If you feel like something is holding you back in life and you need help, I strongly recommend that you give Celebrate Recovery a try. You have everything to gain and nothing to lose!
