It’s very difficult to determine out of all the seven keys which one is the one that has the most impact on our own recoveries. I would certainly put the 4th Key Fellowship at the top of my own priorities for the following two reasons:
· Emotional Support: Life is filled with ups and downs. During challenging times, having fellowship can provide emotional support, helping individuals navigate through difficulties with the reassurance that they are not alone.
· Personal Growth: Through interactions with others, individuals are exposed to different perspectives and ideas, engaging in discussions, sharing experiences, and learning from others can lead to a more well-rounded, enriched life.
Fellowship in Celebrate Recovery is a crucial element for us to be able to identify a prospective sponsor or accountability partner that you feel comfortable with in sharing your own inventory, we can only do that if we engage in fellowship to meet like-minded people who are on the same journey as ourselves, people who understand the process of Celebrate Recovery. Remember finding a sponsor is your responsibility.
Within our Celebrate Recovery groups we need to be creative in our fellowship events, just recently one of the joys for me was seeing one of our small groups planning to go out together for a meal; what a great way of getting to know each other, (of course if we were in the USA we would be having Bar-B-Que but sadly we don’t have the weather!), and we can do many things like Ten Pin Bowling, coffee mornings, rambling. When we meet together we can support and celebrate each other’s successes. Encouragement and support are fundamental to sustaining a healthy fellowship. We need each other.
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 NLT
Two people can accomplish more than twice as much as one, they get better return for their labour. If one person falls the other can reach out and help. But people who are alone when they fall are in real trouble.
Fellowship is the cornerstone of strong communities. It fosters a spirit of cooperation, inclusivity, and mutual respect. Communities built on fellowship are resilient, compassionate, and proactive in addressing collective challenges. Let us all put this Key at the forefront of our creative thinking.
